Hi! I’m Angie Lomas. Thanks for stopping by my page. In order to fully grasp any type of art, I believe you’ve got to know the artist behind the work. So, let me give you a snapshot of who I am and where I’ve been.
I grew up in “small town Iowa” with two amazing parents and an incredible younger brother (don’t tell him I said that)! I’ve been around the “church scene” ever since I can remember…in fact, my mom didn’t want to leave choir practice just because she was having some “labor pains” one Sunday night. Good thing she listened to my dad, or I would have been born singing the hallelujah chorus right there in the church! I was very active in my youth group and always volunteered to make event posters when possible.
It’s probably no surprise that my favorite subject in school was art, and I was lucky to have some amazing art teachers all the way from Webster Elementary to Oskaloosa Junior & High School. I’ll always remember the funny little comic strips I drew for Mr. Faulkes, my favorite high school art teacher. As I grew up, I always wanted to be an artist and wanted to make a difference for God. Needless to say, church and creativity are in my blood, and I’ve been lucky to fall into some amazing places to have the opportunity to put both passions to work.
After graduating, I moved to Kansas City to get a bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design with a minor in Art from MidAmerica Nazarene University. Throughout most of the summers during college, I interned in Student Ministry at Westside Family Church. During my senior year, I interned with the Communications Department at Westside. After graduating college, I worked at Westside as a part-time Associate Director of High School Ministries for a few months.
A few months after graduation, I transitioned to a part-time Communications Assistant position at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. Over the course of almost 6 years, my position has morphed in unbelievable ways and I am now a full-time graphic designer at Pleasant Valley (PV). I’ve learned a lot over the past few years about design, communication, web and the interworkings of a large church. There’s never a dull day at the office!
I am married to an amazing man named Brian, who is constantly challenging me to get out of my comfort zones and thinking of others over myself. Together, we’re a part of the coolest small group of young adults on the planet and we have a beagle named Chigger who thinks she’s a diva!
